When the first Iguanodon fossils were assembled in the early 19th century, its thumb spike was mistakenly placed on its nose — giving it the appearance of a rhinoceros-like horn. It took decades to correct. The spike, it turned out, was a weapon or a tool for handling food.

First interpretations are often confident and wrong. Revision is the actual work.
