Pterodactyl Is Not a Dinosaur (And It Doesn’t Care)

Pterodactyls — more properly pterosaurs — were not dinosaurs. They were flying reptiles that shared the Mesozoic skies, and they’re frequently lumped in with the dinosaurs by those of us who grew up with plastic toy sets. They predate the popular definition by about 220 million years of not needing to be included.

Correct taxonomy is important. So is not being insufferable about it at parties.
